The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a government initiative aimed at providing affordable housing to urban residents in India. A significant component of this scheme is the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS), which offers interest subsidies on Home Loans to eligible beneficiaries to facilitate and encourage purchasing or constructing a home. 

Documents Required for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Scheme (PMAY)

Applicants must submit the following documents when applying under the PMAY scheme: 

  • Identity proof (Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID) 
  • Address proof (Utility bills, Aadhaar card, Passport) 
  • Income proof (Salary slips, ITRs, bank statements) 
  • Property documents (Agreement to sell, property title) 
  • Declaration of not owning a pucca house 

Note: Additional documents may be requested during loan processing

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Eligibility Criteria for EWS and LIG

EWS (Economically Weaker Section) and LIG (Low Income Group) applicants are eligible for higher interest subsidies (6.5%) and are required to ensure: 

  • Household income is up to Rs.3 Lakh for EWS and between Rs.3 Lakh and Rs.6 Lakh for LIG 
  • The property being financed should not exceed the maximum carpet area stated 
  • Ownership in the name of a female member is mandatory (either as sole or co-owner) 

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Eligibility for MIG-I and MIG-II

Middle Income Group (MIG) categories are further divided into two: 

MIG-I 

  • Annual household income between Rs.6 Lakh and Rs.12 Lakh 
  • Property carpet area up to 160 sq. m. 
  • Interest subsidy of 4% on loans up to Rs.9 Lakh 

MIG-II 

  • Annual household income between Rs.12 Lakh and Rs.18 Lakh 
  • Property carpet area up to 200 sq. m. 
  • Interest subsidy of 3% on loans up to Rs.12 Lakh 

Things to Remember Before Applying for the PMAY Scheme

Before you apply for the PMAY scheme:  

  • Check if your property falls within the notified areas as per the 2011 Census 
  • Ensure that you or your family do not own a pucca house in India 
  • Women's ownership is a mandatory condition for EWS and LIG categories 
  • Prepare the required documentation in advance to speed up the application process
